Ongoing Service Opportunities
What we need TODAY:
- Jacques Café- Commit to a few consistent hours weekly to be at JI during normal business hours to setup, make, and serve coffee and tea. Be available to pray and talk with clients. These volunteers should be very relational and empathetic, as well as out-going and very welcoming to all clients at JI. (15-20)
- Volunteer Mentors/Church Liaisons* -Be the bridge, helping people within the church effectively engage in service with the ministry; personally and through the CCB database. Develop and implement a communication plan to expose the church to HopeSprings serving opportunities. Pastor, nurture, help, guide, and encourage them as they serve, problem solving with them when necessary. Participate in at least 3 Journey sessions to meet new volunteers, learn their volunteer goals, and help to identify their „gifts‟ to assist with final volunteer placement. Shepherd 7-10 volunteers from your church, making sure their needs are being met and the volunteer experience is a positive one. Mentors are expected to connect with their mentees at least bi-weekly. Mentors are expected to attend quarterly meetings with the volunteer coordinator to develop a connected relationship aimed at providing a better understanding of the ministry, and what the current ministry needs are. Develop new leaders/mentors if the ministry and volunteer base grows. Attend bi-annual volunteer gatherings. Volunteer mentors should expect to serve an average of 2 hours/week. Work takes place via volunteer phone calls/meetings/emails. Much of the work can be done during evenings and weekends, but daytime flexibility is a huge asset on this team. (7-10 positions)
- Recreation/Fellowship Coordinator (AIRS)* - plan and coordinate client outings and retreats; such as trips to Woodberry Crossing, Rainbow Camps, Annual Picnic, Monthly Birthday Parties. The coordinator can expect to serve an average of 10 hours/month. Hours will be flexible, with the coordination occurring from home and the remainder occurring on site during the events. (1 position)
- Meal Delivery Assistance* - deliver meals to homebound clients. Volunteers are sent to the same geographic area week after week; thus having the opportunity to develop relationships with clients they see consistently week in and week out. Volunteers are asked to deliver meals between the hours of 9am and 2pm, thus daytime hours are essential in this position. Volunteers can expect to serve an average of 3 hours/week in this role. (unlimited # of positions)
- AIRS Investment Team*- Spend time monthly with clients at either Carriage House (Previously homeless youth), Geraldine Young Center (single moms and their children) or Don Miller (24 hour care for the ill). Build relationships with the clients as you do fun things together! “Non-program, programs”
Jacques Initiative
- Jacques/HopeSprings Liaison* - maintain weekly communication between Jacques program staff and HopeSprings volunteers. Jacques operating hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00am - 4:30pm. Daytime, on-site hours are essential for this position. This person can expect to serve an average of 10 hours/week communicating with staff and volunteers to ensure that effective engagement is occurring. At least 4 hours will need to be done on-site at Jacques. (1 position)
- HIV Tester/Counselors* - conduct on-site testing and counseling at satellite sites throughout the city. Volunteers serving in this capacity will be required to complete an additional testing and counseling training session offered free of charge by the State and IHV. The course typically runs for 3 weekdays from 9-5, but the State has offered to work with us to offer the training during more volunteer friendly hours. Details will be developed as we ascertain the number of volunteers interested in such an offering. Team members can expect to serve an average of 4 hours/week on-site. Hours will likely occur on weekdays between 9am and 3pm. Some weekend and evening opportunities may arise as well. (10-12 positions)
- HIV 101 Support Team* - conduct reminder phone calls, workshop registration and facilitation, and schedule follow up screening appointments. Team members will need to be on-site at Jacques for much of this experience. Workshops occur the first Monday evening of every month and the third Thursday morning of every month. A team will be needed to be on-site during the workshop itself, as well as, two days prior to the workshop to make the reminder phone calls. Reminder phone calls need to be made from the office during regular working hours, so at least one member of this team will need to have daytime availability once/month. Team members can expect to serve approximately 7 hours/month all on site at Jacques. (6-8 positions)
- Heaven’s Kitchen Food Pantry Coordinator* - work with HopeSprings nutritionists to coordinate the preparation and delivery of casserole dishes to Jacques where they will be distributed to clients in need of nutritional support. This volunteer will need to build a food pantry team as described below. The Charm City Servant model from Grace Fellowship can be used as a template. This person will also need to check in with the Jacques liaison bi-weekly to ensure that the pantry remains well stocked. These tasks can be done from home during flexible hours. Daytime availability is not essential. This volunteer can expect to serve an average of 5 hours/month. (1 position)
- Heaven’s kitchen Food Pantry Team* - cook and deliver nutritious meals in disposable containers to Jacques on an as needed basis. Deliveries will likely occur once or twice/month. Volunteers can cook at home and can rotate delivery duties. Some team members will need to have daytime availability so that meals can be delivered when Jacques is open to receive them. Otherwise hours will be flexible. Volunteers can expect to serve an average of 2-3 hours/month. (15-20 positions)

- GEAR-Life Skills Educational Team* - facilitate or assist with classes for clients to build life skills: computer skills, resume writing, job interviews, financial planning, healthy living, effective stress management skills, and etcetera. Some clients are ready to move from a volunteer position with the art therapy sessions to a position of entrepreneurship and employment that builds on the skills developed through the arts program. Our long-term hope for this program is that clients will build their resumes through both their volunteer service and this curriculum‟s coursework. Members of this team will not only facilitate the education and resume process, but also the job placement process. To accomplish this, members will actively work to forge hiring relationships with area business leaders and/or job placement agencies. Volunteers should havesome business acumen and daytime availability. Volunteers can expect to serve an average of 5-7 hours/month. At least 2-3 hours/month need to be on-site at Jacques between the hours of 9am and 5pm. (4-6 positions)
